Too lazy to look at model #, but it's 2 years old, with a B&S engine. In the past I have changed oil in the spring before storage (cheap oil) and then changed again in the right before winter with Mobil 1 5w30. My question is, do I really need to change the oil twice (old habit. do it with the motorcycle) and if only once, should I change after the snow season or before snow season? TIA

Change you oil in seasonal equipment prior to putting it away. If the machine is in normal operational shape, then why bother changing it again before using it at the start of the next season? makes no sense. Of course, while it is being stored, do not go starting it intermittently - that will build up moisture in the engine. I can possibly changing out the oil for a second time in that scenario. My two pennies.

run Sta-bil until it's in the carb, change oil. store. leave it alone. snows. start. blow snow.

This is what I have done the last two years. While looking thru the manual, it states that the machine should be run dry of gas as additives may damage the gas tank. Hmmmm.....me thinks I will continue to put stabil in it. Weird. I suppose they are cover their butt????

maybe they mean dry gas or cleaner type additives?
That's what I am assuming.
Assuming a plastic tank, I expect that they would be concerned about leaving harsh solvents in there mixed with fuel over the off-season. Me, I add stabiliser to the fuel and maybe a little bit of Seafoam, run it 'til is runs outta fuel and then open up the plug. Into the cylinder I spay some fogging oil. Pull it over and it will run on it for a moment in a hot cylinder. Open it up again and spray some more in and put the plug back in. Then I drain the bowl and put her away with fresh oil. Fairly simple procedure. If I didn't have fogging oil I would use some two-stroke oil.
