BTW, I've had a look, but my better half accuses me of having "Boy's Looks" when it comes to searching for stuff.
My father was telling me yesterday of his problems with a Nissan Pulsar (the Oz model fitted with the 1.8L J-Car engine).
It's 286,000km.
Was sluggish, and he put in Bosch Platinum plus 4 things (against what I'd read here), and noticed a deterioration in performance...within a few weeks, it was running like a busted arsehole.
He pulled the plugs and put in NGKs, and found #4 pot had split the centre electrode ceramic 4 ways (vertically).
A few weeks later, and it's running bad, so he looks at them all, and #4 is cracked again.
A few weeks later, and it's running bad, so he looks at #4, and it's cracked again.
He DOES hear a little detonation as he moves from the lights, as he tends to lug it a tad (but I've heard far worse, including a Torana that would run for half a minute after turning it on).
He ran premium on the last plug change and it still wrecked the plug.
My two thoughts are :
* accumulated chamber deposits (that never made it to the plugs) causing detonation;
* #4 injector is losing the plot, and 4 is running hot.
I've suggested "Take two techrons and call me in the morning".
Any thoughts ?
