Could 10W30, 5W30, and 0W30 be the same product?

Considering the fact that a 0W weight oil could satisfy the requirements for all higher oils, could an oil company theoretically make one 0W30 product and bottle it as 0W30, 5W30, and 10W30 because it passes the specifications for cold pumpability of all weights?

Just try one trick practised by some members in this Forum. Put the different grades of xW30 in separate little bottles and put the bottles in the freezer. There will be differences in behavior in the different grades, with 0W30 being the most cold-weather pumpable. Dunno about cheap brands like "Engine Death" though....I never tried freezing those.

It has been mentioned here before that this possiblity could very well happen, however I really don't know of any proof that any company has done this. Looking over the technical specs of all the popular oils you'll see no evidence that any companies are doing this. But technically speaking, it could happen.
