I like them both and when Costco does things it's usually to make them money AND keep the customer happy. Coke or Pepsi with ice out of a fountain machine is amazing.
What's crazy is Coca Cola Co. had $45bil in revenue last year. Pepsi-Co had $91bil. And Pepsi-Co has 3x+ the amount of employees than CCC.The article I read said that the change would save Costco money, allowing them to keep the $1.50 pricing for the hot dog and soda drink. It also said that Costco polled customers, and found that something like 80% preferred Coke products at Costco food courts.
Both of these really surprise me. It is hard for me to understand that Coke can offer enough of a price savings, to make a difference in the $1.50 hot dog/soda pricing. I realize Coca-Cola is a massive company, that can afford to leverage their pricing, for the prestige of having their fountains in every Costco. But Pepsi-Cola is no small company.
I find it even more difficult to believe such a large share of Costco customers would prefer Coke. Admittedly, it has been a few years since I have read any articles about Coca-Cola vs Pepsi-Cola market share, but last time I did, I thought the split was closer to about 50% Coca-Cola vs 40% Pepsi-Cola, with the other 10% being other players. You would think, or at least I would think, that Costco members would closely mirror that brand preference.
Correct. Store brand soda does not taste the same.We buy store brand soda (giant and Weis). Yesterday at Giant we got two liter bottles of diet ginger ale for $0.99 while brand names were at or over $3.29. I cannot for the life of me figure out why someone would pay $2.30 more for basically the same thing. Maybe I'm just a cheapskate!

I don't drink soda much, only when I have my rum and coke.
Does Costco actually sell both Coke and Pepsi in there bulk isles? I shop at Costco, just never buy that stuff.
Why is it always one or the other? Why can't places have and offer a choice? Def not in consumer best interests.
YesCoca-Cola still (by far) dominates the US carbonated soft drink in market share. Pepsi is more diversified though. Some years Frito-Lay has more revenue for Pepsi than beverages.
Same here no MTN Dew...we even had diet MTN Dew at the Seattle Costco location due to this ridiculous "sugar tax" on soda the city started. To fight back, Costco switched all the drinks to diet, so they were exempt from the tax. Seattle is crazy with taxes..."gun violence tax" of $25 on every gun sold (like the people buying guns legally are the problem)...ammunition tax, transit tax ($50 additional tax on car tabs to further subsidize public transit), the city taxes everything in the cause of "equity"...I don’t drink soda pop that often but once in a while when I grabbed a $1.50 hot dog at Costco I would get a Mountain Dew with it. But about a year ago they got rid of it at the Costcos in my area![]()

I couldn’t care less, I rarely drink soda. But if 80% of people really prefer Coke, it makes sense.
