Coolant for 2005 Altima

Nissan, along with a couple automakers, has some weird antifreeze change intervals.

My last Nissan said to change it at 60k and then every 30k after that. Makes me wonder if the stuff bought at the dealer is 1/2 as good as what is installed at the factory. Or, don't start with coolant maintenance until after the warranty expires......

I used Peak Global in a 2004 Frontier, the OEM fill looked a lot like Honda Blue but greener.

I know Toyota calls for 100K coolant drains on OEM fill, then 50K afterwards.

The owners manual for my car calls for Nissan coolant which is silicate free, maybe phosphate and borate free, and long life. I drained whatever was in there and did a few drain and fills with distilled water and did a final drain and fill with G-05, which is low-silicate so I don't know how that will affect things.

Schedule 1 and 2 (severe and regular) call for the first change at 60k or 48mo. Naturally it calls for "Genuine Nissan Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant (green) or equivalent". Next change 90k or 72mo.

I have an 03 2.5L and did it at 40k/45months, using Prestone AMM EL. Also used Prestone Super Flush and several distilled H2O flushes. Now at 63K with no issues.

QR25DE Capacity with res. 8qt. QR35DE Capacity with res. 8-5/8qt.

Hope that helps.

Does it call for a full flush of the antifreeze or just a drain and fill of the radiator?

Says replace engine coolant. Guess that makes it your interpretation. Also says in owners manual, to see service manual for specific instructions.

My preference is a system flush and fill.

I would. I'm running G-05 in a 1996 Quest with 3 Bar's Leaks tabs added in for good measure - car likes it so far but the coolant looks dirty now and faintly smells like glycol and pumpkin pie...

I have a 2004 Altima 2.5S and did a drain/fill at 4 years 37000 miles with PEAK Long Life(not GLOBAL). I don't know if there are any long term effects by using the LL but, things are fine almost a year later. Made my own 50/50 using straight PEAK LL and distilled H2o.

Peak Long Life is silicate free so it should be fine for Asian cars that specify silicate free antifreeze. It does contain 2-EH should some (me included) would prefer to avoid. Peak Global is 2-EH free.

Coolants should NOT be mixed.

I would do a flush with Prestone All Makes All Models or a similar Dexclone.

I agree about doing a flush and not mixing, if you are going to change coolant brand/type.

Sooooo, Peak Long Life is supposed to be better (less harmful) than Prestone AM/M? Saw a decent supply of it(full strength) in Wally yesterday and I believe it was less expensive than Prestone by a couple bucks a gallon. I always look for value.

Just curious, what color is it?

Not down on Prestone AM/M, just interested an equal/better product for less $$$$.

Went to the website, says the Peak LL is amber in color.

I saw Peak Global today at a Kmart.
Sheesh, the Kmart's (if you can find one) don't have much of anything around here. IIRC, the last time I was in one nearby, they didn't have it.

Did they have the full strength? Price?

Bill from Utah, used it (full str) in one of his cars, I think his Corolla. Looks like a good product. But availabilty and price is another matter.

I think the Peak Global was $12.xx a gal for concentrate. This Peak Global was in a gold or bronze colored container. While the Peak Global I saw at Walmart with in a blue container.

Thanks for your e-mail. PEAK PROFESSIONAL
ANTIFREEZE and PEAK GLOBAL LIFETIME can both be used in all makes and all
models and can also be mixed together.

One main difference between the two is that PEAK GLOBAL LIFETIME is a

a lifetime warranty. PEAK PROFESSIONAL ANTIFREEZE utilizes an older yet
still good extended life technology inhibitor package that is designed for
