Conventional and Synthetic interchangeability

Is it bad to change back and forth between Sythetic and Conventional? I have a '99 Silverado K1500. . .about 80k miles.

In this forum it has been discussed a lot and except toyota's recommendation against it all the others seem agree that it won't hurt your engine.
I have done it many times personaly with no negative effects.
