Knowing there would never be agreement on the best one filter, I'm curious to see which filters consistently make a Top 5 List

Fram Ultra
Wix/Napa Gold/Carquest Blue
Purolator Synthetic
Hastings/Baldwin
Honda A01 Filtech

My personal favs.

Modifying ThirdYe's list:
Fram Ultra (except not in cartridge form, spin-ons OK) 99% >=20 microns, synthetic media
Fram ToughGaurd 99% >=20 microns, blended media
Mobil1 Extended 99% >=20 microns, blended
Purolator Synthetic 99% >=25 microns (no other Purolators; they tear), synthetic media
Wix/NapaGold/CarquestBlue 95% >=20 microns, blended
Fram ExtraGaurd 95% >=20 microns, blended, lacks a silicon ADBV though.
Mann or Mahle
Hastings/Baldwin
Donaldson
Honda A01 Filtech
Stuff a t-shirt in a pepsi soda can and tape it on.....

I have pretty much standardized on WIX and Denso for my fleet. I have cut many open and have not seen any issues.

I know it's not 5, but they are my top 2 choices.

How is Amsoil EA better than Purolator Synthetic? The rest I agree with and I'd guess ZeeOSix and Motorking would agree with.

I don't think I'd even put the Mobil 1 in my list, because I have no idea what the ISO tested efficiency is, and Mobil 1 says zero about it anywhere [ Says Nothing About Efficiency ] . It could be as bad as the WIX XP (50% @ 20u).

Amsoil says their Ea is 98.7 percent at 20 microns. That's very good. Purolator synthetic is 99% @ 25 microns, not quite as good but decent.

I'm kind of going for full synthetic media filters with a silicone ADBV these days, so my top 4 would be:

Fram Ultra (99%+ @ 20u)
Amsoil Ea (98.7% @ 20u)
Purolator synthetic (99% @ 25u)
Royal Purple (99% @ 25u)

I would probably use a Tough Guard in a pinch due to it's high efficiency, silicone ADBV and high mileage use spec.

Donaldson Endurance/Amsoil Ea
Fleetguard Stratapore
Fram Ultra
Purolator Synthetic
Luberfiner Imperial XL
-in that order. No Wix/NAPA due to poor specs published.

It was printed on some of their boxes in the store (M1 specs). About the same specs as ToughGuards, and made in the same factory as TG too. Also, call the tech line to confirm whats printed on their boxes if you'd like.

If it's up there in the 98+% @ 20u then I'd use the Mobil 1 also.

I can only agree with Mann filters, if they are made in Germany. Some Manns are re-branded Purolators, as are some Bosch.

The posted efficieny on the Amsoil is superior to the Puro synthetic, plus they always look pristine when cut open, the Puro synthetics looks like they had a hard time handling an average interval.

Don't have the facts, but i am pretty sure the Mobil 1 is 95%+@20 microns.

For my application:

Wix XP / Napa Platinum: High flow filter for my Honda in the winter, which is important to prevent cold start rattle.

Napa Gold: Cheap ($3.50 when on sale), no tears, built like a tank.

Purolator Synthetic: I ran one on my 2000 Nissan Altima for 3 OCI's, for a total of 24,500 miles and it look great.

M1 and Fram Ultra: Long drain, decent flow, high quality.

Here is my list:
1> What
2> Ever
3> is
4> on SALE or REBATED
5> Cheap.

Current stash includes Wix, Bosch Distance Plus, Purolator Pure One, Pronto, Napa Gold, and a cut open Fram orange can of death. I cut it open to be sure no matter how desperate I got, I could not use it.

Not in any particular order (besides OEM):
FRAM Ultra
Hastings Premium/Baldwin Filters
Purolator Synthetic
Mobil 1 EP
Wix/NAPA Gold/CARQUEST Premium (Blue)

Ford=Motorcraft S-models especially for $2.58 using codes at AAP
Euro=Mann, Mahle, Hengst..zee Germans.
GM=Wix
Genny=Wix

I have yet to try a FU but I would if I had to. The current rebate is tempting but my stash is plentiful.
