There's a few owners over on a OPE forum I hang out at that have "re-built" their TuffTorq K46 drives. Very similar to the K51. The first fella that did it took advice directly from a Tech at Tufftorq. They basically advised him to replace the pump, motor and internal filter and it totally revived his drive from completely inop to brand new performance. The parts were ~$150. Sure beats $600-900 for a whole new transaxle.

I haven't heard too much "re-building" of HydroGear drives, but assume it pretty much the same procedure. Most of the Tufftorqs come apart horizontally, where the Hydrogears are vertically split cases for the most part.

Well I followed the advice above on my JD LT155 with Tuff Torq K51 and changed the oil to hopefully get it moving. It didn't work, worth the shot.
I talked to Tuff Torq Monday morning and they suggested the rebuild kit.
It looks to me (after seeing a post on mytractorforum) that the parts separately are less expensive than the kit?
