I noticed this claim on Valvolines website for the Maxlife coolant. Do most of you guys think it's true and could I use it in my Honda Odyssey as well as my Toyota Avalon and Nissan Altima?

The leading antifreeze brands claiming “all makes, all models” use a corrosion inhibitor package without silicate. These chemistries, when mixed together, may fail to protect the cooling system from rust and corrosion. MaxLife Antifreeze is the only antifreeze to contain Alugard Plus®, a special additive that allows these chemistries to work together to provide maximum protection.

Idk about the valvoline but I put Toyota red coolant in my 02 accord. It was cheaper than the Honda blue fluid and it works great. Might work in the Nissan too it will just have to be changed sooner than a long life coolant.

Their claim doesnt mean anything. Sounds like a general comment not based on any fact. Marketing ploy if you will. Notice how they use "may fail to protect the cooling system". No definitive statements were listed.

If you mix it with blue, I suspect it will make purple.

In the case of HOAT and OAT coolants which Chrysler Products use the color means a lot. If you mix orange and purple you'll probably get a brown color and clogged heater core and a lot of problems with the cooling system. The products when mixed will Gel and plug things up in a big way. Some companies use different colors for a reason.

Like many topics ML AF has been discussed here before. A google search of bitog will show those threads. But in summary ML AF most seems to be some type IAT conventional/original green AF. It is a silicate based formula like original green AF used in many/most older model car domestic vehicles.

All the vehicles you list are Asian makes originally specing an Asian PHOAT AF, with no silicates, borates, nitrites or amines. They are also Long Life AF's.

So, I wouldn't choose ML AF for an Asian make vehicle.

Beyond using the oem AF from the dealer, Pep Boys now sells full strength/concentrate OEM brand by Rechochem which is Asian PHOAT AF. It comes in four different tints to match the oem AF, but all would be same otherwise. Most Asian AF's come as premix, so while the PB OEM looks somewhat pricey, it goes twice as far when mixed with distilled water as the dealer AF's which are pricey too. If you're looking for one AF for all the vehicles listed, that would a good choice imo in the tint you choose.

Zerex Asian Formula would be an option, however like dealer oems it too is only available as a premix.

Full strength Peak Global Lifetime from Napa, with a complete flush would imo be another acceptable choice for all those vehicles. Using it in an 01 Tacoma for a few years now and working great, original rad.

In short, I'd pass on the ML AF for the vehicles you listed.

^^Man, I wish the Rechochem stuff was around when I changed the rad in my Infiniti a while back! I was desperately looking for a full strength Asian AF to use after a flush. Now I know what to use for my Accord when doing the timing belt this summer.

Other sources for full-strength Asian PHOAT are :

CarQuest: Has Toyota OE brand "Red," ~$26/gal.
Napa, O'Reilly, others: Pentofrost A1, same price.

They can order other Pentofrost Ax variants in the OEM color you want, but the chemistry is the same (see pentofrost's website).

Toyota Red comes as full strength, however it is not a Long(er)Life AF like the Toyota Pink Super LL premix. Though Red is still available it has virtually been superseded SLL pink. Red has a recommended service interval of 2 years/~30k miles. The SLL pink is 50k/5year Toyota recommended, in after FF drain and fill service.

That makes Toyota SLL pink now the equivalent of Honda Type2 blue, newer Nissan blue LL, and Mazda FL22 Green, all of which come as premix.

Pep Boys OEM EL brand concentrate PHOAT is currently ~$22/gal.

One other full strength PHOAT option is Motorcraft Specialty Green available from FoMoCo dealers. However even for a concentrate it is generally very pricey.
