So, Mobil makes about 47 different 30 weight oils. This is a comparison of their consumer grade, readily available synthetics. I thought the 10w-30 was an odd duck, and the HM/Truck-suv oils actually have some benifit.

I suspect that the 10W-30 is a much older formulation, using a thinner 'straight 30' PAO base stock, so it doesn't 'stretch' as far in either direction....

Good catch, Johnny. Maybe a mod could just exchange the 100 and 40 headings, that would fix it.

Farrarfan1,

They are the correct numbers, and they are from that site. And yes, it appears the two visc are flipped. But I posted them in an easier to compare format than that site provides because there was some discussion last week about the 10w-30 being thinner at both temps than the 5w-30. It's actually thinner than anything they make, even the 0w-30. Odd. Also, there was another thread with the question of what the difference between the M1 5w-30 and the SUV 5w-30. Well, there is a pretty big difference in the pour point, which surprised me. Lastly, it's worth noting that if you live in a warm climate, and want a thick 30 weight with a good HTHS, the HM is a much better match than the M1 10w-30.

Is pour point really that important seeing that most vehicles don't operate in temps colder than -40 degrees?

I guess not really, but I also have Clean 5000 on my spreadsheet, and those dinos are in the -20~27 degree range. And that we do touch on every year.
