trying to fix,to sell to a neighbor.

Looks like the network isn't set up on the computer, it's not showing any ip, assuming the adapter hardware is still working. check/try this. Go to the control panel, network connections, right click on the local area connection (if there are multiple you have to figure out the correct one that goes with the realtek network adapter) and select properties, go to the tcp/ip make sure it's got the check/enabled, select/highlight tcp/ip and hit the properties button, in the general tab, check/set the adapter to enable dhcp get ip automatically and dns automatic.

To me this looks more like a hardware/physical problem. Either the network card is hosed or there is something wrong with its connector.

Where did you plug in cable? Which port on router? Try other cable.
After, check your card maybe it is not all the way in pci slot, try another slot. Or if you have built in network card, just go get standard pci lan card at any comp shop. They are $10 or less.

Done all this, still nothing.

hardware problem.

you have to have 2 devices that work and a cable thats good.

if you have media disconnect showing.

99% chance one of the 2 devices (nic, router/switch) or the cable is bad.

you can try another NIC (pci?) if you have one and a pci slot

or a usb to ethernet adapter
similar to

usb to ethernet adaptor on newegg

Well, i hooked up the lan card, nothing.I do get the horizontal blue bar at the bottom that says "waiting for http :google.com". Nothing happens after that.under network connections ,i also have one called incoming connections.Local Area Connection 6 ,under this it says connected.

If i disconnect the cable,it will say at the bottom right that a cable has been disconnected. If i reconnect it,it'll go away.Do i need to "reset" router? How do i do this? I tried pinging 174.125.224.177, all fails

Have you tried connecting directly to the internet without the router, maybe the router is not allowing that computer to connect, or maybe there's a setting in the router that sets the maximum number of computers it allows to connect and it's reached the limit.

It finally works!!! I don't know if it was the updates or deleting zonealarm that did it.I also ran the cable from modem to comp, instead of to router first.
