Clutch Break In

And when I come to a red light or slower traffic, I will put the trans in neutral and let the car coast. No need to downshift through the gears.

Our old Civic has 240K miles and will easily get past 300K miles the way I taught my nephew to drive it. I love skipping gears on all my cars, this is for gas mileage.....not clutch wear reasons.

I believe when you sit at a stop light with the car in first and clutch depressed, you will wear the pilot bushing (or bearing) and not the TOB.

Primarily the TOB will be wearing but there is a bit of induced drag on the pilot bushing/bearing due to the input shaft wanting to remain stationary while the flywheel is turning.

I don't like to leave the clutch depressed for more than a few seconds.

I try to get off the pedal fast, and keep it in Neutral instead of holding it down. It's a wear item, but with proper care can last a very long time.

I'm a big believer that driving hard every now and then is good for the equipment. Break-in, just drive normally for 500mi or so, then give her the beans! A couple hard, full power shifts will do to get some heat in the clutch, clean it up, and take off any glaze if there's any.

And like most everyone else, clutch-out in-neutral while stopped; downshift only for fun or as needed to accelerate. More shifts = more wear.
