Good afternoon,

Clearcoat peeled off good. Car wash guy said to buy fingernail paint and apply. Car painter said paint of whole hood is needed. I have seen it videos of guys buying paint and applying themselves.

I have played with blending 2k clear over blemishes. Depends upon how good the rest of the paint, and how picky you are. On my 440k mile, 25 year old truck, it’s not a big deal... getting it sealed up is the key, not the look...

Here is a car that had clear coat failure. I wet sanded with 2000 grit on a foam block for a few minutes, and sprayed with clear. I was very careful not to sand through the base coat. Look at the roof and the front fender tops to see about how it was before. (those were not as bad)

The entire job, from start to finish took an hour.

In the usa clear coat in a can is available and in nicaragua i am not sure i will check as i have only seen clear coat applies with paint gun and compressor.

You need to watch a bunch of videos on how to use clearcoat, and give it a shot.

Potential Pro Tip: if the clear coat is lifting off, you can use tape to remove a lot of the rest of it.

Fun fact: On my previous 1995 Ford Escort, the cars were clear coated from the factory, except for black cars. Body shop clear coated various parts of it after wrecks, and I kept the car long enough for the clear coat on the wrecked parts to go bad.

Have you taken it to any body shops? If this is something you want to fix I think a shop like Maaco might be a good choice. You can probably get a decent paint job for a fair price.

If you do not replace the clear coat, is there a future possibility of any damage other than cosmetic?
I lost a lot of clear coat on my car and it seems fine. I’m sure it is fading faster, but... with the clear coat gone fading is the least of its worries.
