Chrysler minivan wins approval

Not just the van either, a few of their other good vehicles as well.

I love that Chrysler is coming back. I have always had a soft spot for them, and up until the early/mid 2000's I would have easily said they were without a doubt my favorite domestic name. That was gone for a few years, but it's definitely coming back for me. I hope they continue to build the crazy stuff they have built in the past. They need another car like the original SRT-4.

If only I could work up a shred of faith in their automatic trannys, I might consider one. But I have known too many coworkers and friends whose Chrysler products have left them by the side of the road and then hit them with enormous repair bills after warranty. I'll wait for another ten years or so to see how the current crop of transmissions hold up and then maybe....

“The Chrysler Group turnaround has been a treat to watch,” said Appel. “In a few short years the company has made revolutionary gains in terms of drivetrain sophistication and materials, and assembly quality. Chrysler really feels like an all new entity.”

I drove a 2012 for 4 days while my car was in the body shop, and I agree that the drivetrain is more sophisticated. So much so that the 6 speed trans can never figure out what gear it wants to be in. It was the most annoying vehicle I have ever driven for that reason alone.

And after 17k miles, it had more rattles and noises than any other car I have ever owned. We crossed it off of the list of potential minivans that we will be looking at buying next summer. It's too bad, because the Pentastar 3.6 is a great engine. Just when Chrysler finally figured out their transmissions, they decide to re-invent the wheel. They should just throw in the towel and source all of the slushboxes from ZF.

It could be a great engine, they are on the third revision of the left cylinder head, the problem is well known. Now if this third revision to the head was the fix I have a feeling it will be a great engine. JMO

BTW I like the Jeep and Ram trucks. I plan on buying a new Wrangler, once I'm certain the 3.6L head issue as been resolved. I'd also like to try and get that Jeep before they make the 3.6L a DI engine.

I agree on the caravan and journey, however the durango is a tarted blimp of a rolling sperm pod which makes zero practical sense. enjoy the huge payment and small benefit.

I agree ... but lets just add their sub par electronics and engine quality to the list!

They make a lot of attractive vehicles! I just wouldn't trust any of them.

Anecdotal baloney, EVERY car mfgr makes lemons. For every single idjit who can revel us with a Chrysler story I'll just search Google and come up with another horror story for almost ANY other brand.

And K cars were a great little econobox. From Wiki: "The K-cars (Dodge Aries, Plymouth Reliant, Chrysler LeBaron, Dodge 400, and, in Mexico, Dodge Dart) sold very well, selling between 280,000 and 360,000 every year from 1981 to 1988, and edging over 100,000 in their final year, 1989.

The manual transmission provided acceleration of 0-60 mph in 10 seconds, while the automatic was between 13 and 14 seconds, similar to or better than most competitors, while gas mileage was rated by the EPA at 26 mpg city, 41 mpg highway with the manual transmission."

Everybody has a brand they love to bash, but you'll never hear from the many happy owners who drove till the wheels fell off and loved their cars.

You've lost your mind. Yes they weren't the cats meow as far as options but I had an 89 dodge with a 318 that was unkillable. It was abused working construction for over a decade by me and my employees.
Then my 95 dodge, again 318,was a fantastic truck. Some woman on a cell phone hit me so hard it flipped the truck.
I've got an 05 dodge now with a hemi, and 246000 on it that starts first turn. I'm not a dodge fan whatsoever but the price was right every time on the trucks I bought and I can honestly say I haven't had any troubles with them.
Maybe I just get the freak good ones.
And what about the slant 6? That engine is legendary for durability.
All automakers have issues. Fords 2v's spitting out plugs, chevy and their numerous build issues. No one is perfect.

A lot has changed since the 80's ... in every field.

I agree 100%. I've known k car owners whos cars ran fine til the wheels fell off. The 2.2 liter had no real power but was durable. My mom had a sundance when I was in high school and I beat the tar out of that thing, then it was absorbed by my sister, with over 400000kms on it and it ran great until she totalled it.
Then my younger brother had a diplomat with a slant 6. Dumb kid had an oil light on for 3 weeks in the winter. He mentioned it to me,I go look and there was no oil showing on the dipstick whatsoever. I put in 4 quarts before it showed oil.
I ran seafoam thru the oil, changed it at 1000 miles and chunks came out. Put a new filter and mobil 1(yea I was a mobil fan for a long time in my youth) and he drove it for 2 more years before he sold it to a kid at his school.
Every single mass producer of vehicles has some form of issues. They aren't bentley's or rolls royces

OK, I'll chime in. I got 18 years out my Scamp (the pickup variant of the Horizon). Part of me still misses that little bugger. 11 years, so far, on the Cruiser. Before that, sis had a Valiant, mom a Dart, me a Duster. Oh, they weren't perfect, but what is? They were good little vehicles. I'll always have a warm spot in my heart for the utilitarian "grocery getter" like the K-car. Every brand has one, my regards to them.

Good luck Chrysler!

Chrysler minivans have never been any worse the Ford or GM MVs.

In regards to their cars, I say bring back the Omni/Horizon! Remember how many of those used to be on the roads? I wonder how they'd do MPG wise today. Something so basic would be refreshing IMO. Yeah I realize the original design wouldn't be up to today's safety and emissions standards.

Let's see, in another thread you said Dell always made garbage and always will. Now Chrysler has always been junk vehicles. I guess the fact that I'm on my 5th Dell computer in 12 years and have had ZERO problems with any of them is just a fluke. Likewise, I'm on my third Chrysler 300 in the last 10 years and they have proven to be reliable, well-built cars with no more problems than any other brand I've owned. Another fluke.

I'll bet you're loads of fun at a party.
