This isn't really new. The last significant conflict either fought was with each other. Even though there top trading partners, there sparring all the time and generally don't like each other and compete for influence in the area.

It is news as the information in most of the articles published above were not released from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

A article about China having a missle defense on their sovereign land is very different than China entering Vietnamese territorial waters causing stress where production of crude oil is occurring.

China is really pushing the buttons over there. I just read that their new carrier just transited the Taiwan Straits. Chinese fishing vessels are crowding out others in Vietnam and Philippine waters and are using naval and coast guard vessels to keep the locals out.

In addition, Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen will be out this next January as her term expires and she cannot run anymore. That election will be crucial and China already has their fingers in that pie.

The first 3 are Turkish, middle Eastern, and British. They are just the ones I found on a quick search. Yours came from Faux news . I am sure we could both look around and find many more sources - my point was only that China and Vietnam haven't exactly been friends for a very long time.

It doesn't much surprise me if Xi is turning up the volume a bit - a time honored strategy of dictators everywhere is to start outside conflict when things at home aren't so great.

Al Jazeera? Reuters? Yeah....okay.

Even after the successful testing of US equipment in Ukraine, China still wants to push the boundaries.

The Philippines is beefing up their patrol boat fleet with a bunch of these vessels built in Israel. Speeds over 40 knots. Should be a nice addition to their fleet.

Complete with a pr. of Ma Deuce. Browning since 1921 still going strong.

Sounds familiar.

China thinks that the US is too distracted with what's going on in Ukraine to notice what they're doing. And they think that we've used up too much of our arsenal in Ukraine to be able to defend Taiwan and the South China Sea. They're gambling that they can gobble up a lot of the local territory and get away with it. Sort of like Italy in Abyssinia (North Africa) in the 1936 and Hitler in Czechoslovakia in 1939.

Sounds like FAFO territory

More like the opposite. We have a new deal with Philippines to open new military and navy bases, we have recently sold long range missiles to Australia, which China tried to protest by banning Australian goods, until they found out that is where most of their coal came from. We have always been friends with S. Korea. Japan has inked deals with the last 2 admins - the only country to get along with both.

The US probably hasn't been this active in the South China sea since WW2.
