No chance as they will be shot for even thinking outside the box. They dont want the masses having free thought.

Kinda like the British and the Colonies eh?

Not exactly. The Brits had the troops that garrisoned the colonies, but additional troops as well as logistical support were weeks away by sailing ship and even then word of the uprising had to get to the mother country via those same sailing ships.
OTOH, China has lots of people and it's doubtful that their armed forces could suppress a widespread uprising. Many of these typically impressed troops would be reluctant to fire upon their countrymen just as many officers would be reluctant to communicate such orders received from on high to their troops.
At some point, the pitchforks will come out. The question is whether China can grow its way out of this threat before it reaches a critical mass. The underground rumblings are already there and every major fire starts with a tiny flickering flame.

Masses who can't think for themselves are great for industrial production, but not so great when that industry is now looking for cheaper workers to exploit. Companies have started moving elsewhere in Asia because Chinese workers are too expensive and the products in those other countries are often higher-quality.

China really needs to move up the economic food-chain, which requires creativity and innovation.

They will do OK so long as the economy keeps growing. Once it stalls or starts to go backwards, they'll have a lot of starving people to deal with. And a banking system that will probably collapse.

It's also worth noting that we may be entering a new Little Ice Age right now, and Chinese governments have a long tradition of collapsing during such events. They've also had to kill off a huge percentage of their pigs due to swine flu, and they're losing crop production elsewhere due to the cold winter, changes in rainfall patterns and crop-eating bugs.

So I'm not betting on China taking over the world any time soon. I'm not even betting on them being able to feed their population in five years.

Many of the innovative things I've seen online from China are innovative in... not employing people. Completely human-free stores, for example (well, aside from the customers).
