It was kind of insane when it happened. By all appearances, the Chinese Coast Guard vessel was attempting to ram the Philippine Coast Guard vessel. There were personnel at the front of the ship (yeah I get there’s a technical term for it) attempting to place bumpers in anticipation of the collision. But then the PLA navy ship is also pursuing the Philippine ship and cuts across it, wiping out the bow. Most likely the personnel there didn’t survive.
The ship with the destroyed bow is a former PLA Navy corvette. Looks really bad, but obviously having compartments kept it afloat.
