Chevy Equinox V6 Another OLM Change ?

My daughter has a 2011 Chevy Equinox V6.

I know that the OLM interval was changed (decreased) to a maximum of 5500 miles due to problems with lubricating the timing chain.

My daughter does mostly highway mileage and gets oil changed at the dealer. In the past her OLM maxed at about 5500 miles and that is what they put on her next oil change sticker.

She had the oil changed today and they put 12,000 miles (interval) on the next oil change sticker.

Did Chevy increase the OLM interval ? Maybe they found out Dextros oil holds up better? Her OLM should answer this in the future.

They usually put the mileage to change at not the interval. Are you sure its not the odo reading to change at?

I would follow the OLM, not the sticker. GM programmed the OLM that way for a reason, whatever that reason may be.

They did put the mileage to change at (32,000 miles) on the sticker, she now has 20,000 miles on the odometer. I just meant that they showed a 12,000 mile interval.

+1 I trust the scientists who created the OLM over the "professionals" at dealerships. GM's OLM has proven to be 99.99% accurate based on used oil analysis and I trust both my cars based on their OLMs.

She does follow the OLM. She just wondered why they increased the interval on the sticker.

Is your Equinox a V6 ? What is the normal interval on your 2005 Equinox? Did you get a change/recall notice on the OLM interval on your Equinox?

I have had the same issues when the dealer changed oil. Either a mistake is made or some number is stuck there based on the whim of the person doing the work?

Don't know if that engine has direct injection or not but I am not a fan boy of extended oil changes in engines that have direct injection.

I agree with the other members. As long as she follow`s the OLM, She`l be fine. And with her getting the oil changes done at the dealer, if a situation should arise (oil related) I doubt it would be a problem.

It IS a direct injection engine, so fuel dilution of the oil is a problem (probably what contributed to timing chain wear).

Is your Equinox a V6 ? What is the normal interval on your 2005 Equinox? Did you get a change/recall notice on the OLM interval on your Equinox?


Mine is the old 3.4 liter V6. It doesn't have the countdown style OLM but the one where the oil light will come on when it has reached zero. I usually get around 6-8k per oil change. I am unsure of any recalls but I will be on the lookout

We have the same vehicle. Sorry, no way I would go 12,000 miles on an OCI after seeing used oil analysis posted here.
We have had no issues with fuel dilution, etc on ours and use Pennzoil Platinum 5w30/Wix filter on it. I change oil at 4500 miles max.
Probably overkill but I'm fine with that.

If you have the reprogrammed OLM then you're golden.

Other than DI engines before the new software, GM's OLM has been a flawless wonder. Follow it and sleep well.
