Whats the opinion on Chevron Supreme in 5w30 and 10w30? Picked up a case of $12 for about as cheap as you can get any given dino oil around here to burn in the Oldsmobile and wondering if it will compare with the Formula Shell I've always prefered for this use.

Chevron Supreme is good stuff, used to be really well regarded on here years back. I don't have any real complaints with it, but my grandmother's Trailblazer burned a quart of it in a 3,500 mile OCI (HM version) and it had never burned oil before with its previous Castrol GTX runs. I still have some in my oil stash and would have no problems using it though. Could have been a fluke.

Well, I should have searched better before posting. PQIA and plethora of BITOG threads show its a strong dino oil with high TBN.

It is as good as about any other dino. If the price is right, I would use it without giving it a second thought.

Agree posters above, Chevron Supreme conventional is as good as any name brand conventional. If it's cheaper than others I would buy and use it without worry.

Anything Chevron is good IMO.. The Chevron Supreme has a decent amount of moly too IIRC.

Last winter, Oreillys had that and Havoline jugs for $13.99(??) with a WIX made MicroGard filter. That would be the time to stock up.

Comparable with other name brand dyno oils I've used. Never had any problem with engine start up in the cold winter months either. Good oil usually at a good price.

Chevron/Havoline is good stuff.

I got crazy gas mileage using Havoline 5W-20 last summer.

It may have been the gasoline or driving conditions but I got a real mileage boost compared to TGMO 0W-20.

It may have been some kind of placebo effect though.
