I was reading the Motor Oil Bible and in the oil ranking section the Chevron Supreme 100% synthetic 10w30 grade was very highly rated.

Can anyone comment on this oil good or bad. Is it a group III or group IV base?

I'm thinking of switching to the Chevron. It is a $1.00 cheaper per quart and seems to be better rated (at least by the authors interpretation). I have four vehicles so if I can save some $$ and get a better oil it sounds like a win win.

I did a search but didn't come up with much on the full synthetic version of the Chevron oils.

Thanks for your input.

Hey patman.I just talked with a chevron lube tek last week and he said their synthetics are PAO based, and that they make the base stock them selfs. They have two different synthetics.Delo and supreme.I'll call him again on monday and ask if they both are PAO or group3 to make sure.Tony

I asked about Chevron Supreme Synthetic and they told me the basestocks are all PAO.

Chevron Supreme has hydrocracked and isodewaxed basestocks.

Both oils post outstanding specs and look like great values.

I've used Chevron Synthetics for about 10 years, 10W50 when it was available and now 10W30.

Interesting story on one of the other boards appeared recently about twp 24 hour Lemans (?) racers, one with Mobil, the other with Chevron synthetic. At the end of the race, both engines were torn down. The Mobil was cooked, and the Chevron could've gone another race without a problem. Another tidbit from the same person, who works for one of the Major Oil companies: A major Dodge Viper engine builder from the midwest allegedly uses nothing but theChevron synthetic stuff...
