They are about the same price after coupon ~ $20.
I was in Walmart and saw this today. Never having used a sander before, this orbital one had a sucky connection to the bag/filter and hard to use on/off switch.

The Harbor Freight one I haven't seen yet.

Which one would you choose? It will be used for sanding paint off the roof of the Corolla and hopefully sanding the primer before paint, although higher than 220 grit 5" discs don't seem readily available locally. If I were to go for a finish sander I would have cheap availability for higher grit sandpaper, but it does not seem popular for cars.

I'd probably go to Wal-Mart. It'd be easier to deal with them if you needed to return it which is unlikely.

For sand auto paint you really want one with variable speed, slow and steady but keep it moving at all times is key to keeping it flat so it doesnt look like donuts all over the place. This is a cheap one but has decent reviews. Its no Dewalt or Makita but it should do the job.

Start with 220 grit then 400 before applying the primer. sand the primer with this and water with 400-600 wet and dry paper.

+1 HF can be a pain with returns considering most of their stuff isn't that high of quality. Don't get me wrong, I shop there a lot but I also don't really use what I buy that often. For something that will get regular use I tend to buy higher quality. If the price isn't that big of a difference I would buy the sander at wally world.

They are the exact same unit. I would go with the WM unit, it's $11 less.

Thanks for the replies!
I ordered the unit suggested by Trav, the foot review from 5/30 tipped the scales, LOL.
Thanks Trav, you're a great guy!
