Has anybody used some of the "cheap" ($5-$30) devices available out there? If so, how has your experience been? I have an Elmscan5 with OBDWiz and ForScan which is my primary, but I would like to pick up a mini device to use with my smartphone on the road.

There seem to be two types. unless you're going to buy a nice one, go cheap. they both seem to work just as well

I have also used the ELM327 with good results. I use Torque 2 on Android phone. I bought "New Version V1.5 ELM327 OBDII OBD2 Bluetooth Car Diagnostic Interface Scanner" on Amazon, Currently $9.98

No issues with the BAFX unit I got off Amazon, I even leave it plugged in 24/7 with no problems.

Make sure if you get it you buy from BAFX products on Amazon, many counterfeit models from other sellers.

I use torque pro on Android.
