I have on 02 Chevy Impala with the 3.4 and I am getting ready to have my Radiator flushed out and the coolant changed and was wondering if it was ok to not put the dex-cool back in, and go with the so called green antifreeze, I have asked around and have recieved different answers so I thought I would asked the experts on this board. thanx.

Yes it's fine. We do it daily at my shop.
If you flush it out entirely, I'd look at using G-05 (the gold coolant Ford and Chrysler use) so it's still a long life coolant, but the good kind.
I've been doing complete flushes and replacing with Texaco green forever. Not once have I had an issue.
I'd rather have that then dexcool.

my 1st question would be is how is the cooling system, is the radiator in bad shape and in need of a flush?
What are the reasons you need a radiator flush? hopefully it's not because the shop recommended it saying it's a GM vehicle running deathcool.
Don't just switch to green without any good reason, there are millions of cars running on dexcool with zero problems. And don't be so quick do diagnose any sort of cooling problem as the sole fault of the coolant.

i have tried to research the dexcool problems and have found most major problems have been caused by gross neglect of the cooling system. The biggest problems are when the system runs low and iron components are subjected to air, then rust and the rust gets washed throughout the system, and this was exacerbated by the use of cooling sealing pellets at the factory. They do not use the pellets anymore or so I've read. The other major problem was a chemical in dexcool reacting with certain gasket materials, nylon and silicone I thought with 2-eha. But you would've had that problem already and it pertained to certain models and engines, and I'm pretty sure the impala or anything 2002 or later is not affected.

I took my Yukon to a friends shop to have it flushed out with a machine because I do not have the tool to get the block drained. Well half way through the flush the machine broke. I had brought in my own G-O5 coolant but since the machine broke he put in Prestone for all vehicle coolant. Well I just took it home from there and a couple weeks later just did a drain and fill on my own. Drained the radiator and took the lower hose off and ran water through it until it ran clear and then filled with more of the same Prestone coolant that he gave me from their left over in case there was a problem. Now I have bought some Peak Global coolant that I plan on doing the same procedure with. No problems yet. Its only been a couple months however. But I think you are fine as long as you get all the Dex-cool out.
