Change to synthetic from std after 223 k miles?

There are certainly engines, even infamous Toyota engines, which are prone to sludge. The 4.7L v-8 isn't one of them. I had one in my 2001 Tundra many years ago. Very good running; very clean running engine.

Given the history of the OPs vehicle (dealer OCIs every 3-4k miles) and the history of the engine series (not prone to sludge), I think that topic is moot.

The sane advice is for the OP to use up what he's already got in his garage; the Mobil 1 oil. But to really get some value out of that oil, he'll have to be willing to run past 1 year in the crankcase. (Plenty of UOAs to prove that there's no inherrent danger in doing so).

Otherwise, this thread has no value. He'll just stick to his preset routine with his prechosen oil, and his question was nothing but a lightly-veiled quest to some "feel good" echos.
