I am changing the camshaft end plug on a Honda B20 engine. I want to replace the snap-in plug (hard palstic with /o-ring ) camshaft end seal with a drop- in compression type seal plug which requires the removal of the rear camshaft bearing cap . It appears that the sealant was previously used where the bearing cap meets the head on the portion that is outside the valve cover.

I know that Honda guys recommend Hondabond sealant but I want to I use one of the Permatex products like - Black Ultra, Grey Ultra, Grey Optimum etc. Which sealant can I use ? -Thanks

I doubt Honda actually makes the stuff. More likely that they contract with an RTV manufacturer to put the product into Honda branded squeeze tubes. Permatex Ultra Grey would be equivalent.

When using a third-party redesigned part, it would be best to look for the manufacturer's instructions.

Though this isn't a critical application involving any significant heat or pressure, so just about anything should work.
