CHAMP branded filters

Store near me has CHAMP filters for 1.99 each in many applications. I figured, sweet I'll buy about 12 because thats why BITOG members would do!

I opened a box. I thought wow, these are light... and have plastic cores... and I don't see a ADBV at all... The end cap looks really really thin (totally flat too)... Really wimpy gasket...

I ended up putting it back. I'm sure it would be okay, but it felt probably like the worst filer I'd even inspected visually.

Almost suspect they were knockoffs.

Champ labeled, Service Champ, and majority AZ STP's are basic low end jobber tier filters, many but not all are ecores. $1.99 sounds about right for Champ labeled. Same filter line minus the can texture as now used at WM TLE.

No texture on these, plain white can. No "finger grip" pattern on the bottom.

Had FRAM, Purolator, and some other manufacturer cross references on the box.

Right, as noted same filter line as the current WM TLE named Fram Core filters, 'minus' the texture on those.

I was thinking texture like that black grip on the bottom of a FRAM.

I follow now.

Well if they can retail for 1.99, they must make them for pennies.

What application was it? What part number? Some applications don't require an ADBV or a bypass.

The one for the Impala in my signature. No bypass, but ADBV yes.

No oil filter bypass required for 2010 Impala, has engine block bypass. Really when it comes to ecores, those applications requiring no filter integral bypass are preferable 'imo'. No nitrile combo bypass valve to consider.

And fyi, the Fram orange can 9837 for this application has no adbv either. So it's like the Champ gives you a bonus.
