From what I have been reading on this board, it sounds like Castrol may be reformulating all of thier oils (for the better). Does anyone have any info on the lateset version of Syntec 10W-30? I'm looking for Viscosity, pour point, etc.

Anyone? I would like to know this also. Patman do you have any specs on Castrol Syntec?

All Syntec 10-30 I have used in the last 6 months has been A5, B1. Before that it was rated only A1,B1. Mobil 1 is A5, B5.

I'm not sure why Syntec 10-30 doesn't have B5 since it has a pretty good add pak.

My specs. are old and I'm not going to chase 'em.

Syntec is cool, but I wish they would get the price down to Mobil 1's in the jugs and post specs.

Until Syntec posts the B5, I won't run it for any extended intervals.

Syntec 10W-30 in jugs is only $1 more than Mobil 1 at Wal-Marts around here.

I do not like the fact that 10W-30 M1 is so thin. If syntec 10W-30 is thicker, it will be my new oil.

I e-mailed Castrol for specs.

I run Syntec for years and it actually gets thinner than M1 and is not a thick 30 wt!!

Syntec seems to quiet some engines. It gives better throttle response for me. M1 seems a bit more sluggish, but probably stays where it is out of the bottle, viscosity wise.

Syntec has good chemistry I think, but it is also thin. If you want thick, this ain't it.

Syntec is great stuff, but expect it to be every bit as thin as Mobil 1.

It's good oil, but if you are part of the thicker is better crowd, this ain't it.

Syntec is good stuff and has good properties, but it isn't thick. Maybe Mobil 1 is thicker.

Why are you all believing that more viscosity is better anyway?? Syntec and M1 are at the low end and they rule.

I have 111000 on my Jeep 4.0 and use M1 5w-30 with no consumption. I think it runs cooler so it stays thicker at temps. I don't think you can go by the vis at 212, because every engine runs at different oil temps.

I think we get it.

Yeah that was the 5w-30 . The 10w-30 was 10.0 .

It might be a bit thicker now with the A5 rating but yet again A5 is a extended drain low viscosity rating .

One thing about those Syntecs is they have the zinc and lottsa detergent .

When API SM comes around the low viscosity " for a 40wt " 10w-40 Syntec will be exempt from lowering the phos ..... and again the same be said about " shameless plug

the very groovy Mobil Supersyn 0w-40
