I bought up alot of the Castrol startup 5w30 and 10w30 when advance auto quit selling it at a good price, even though the bottle says G-3 and SL, Castrol claims their GTX startup is G-4 SM, on a fax they sent. I have to wonder if this oil is the old folmula Syntec oil, re- packaged. It came out about the time Syntec changed its folmula. Since I bought the oil , I bought a new truck a 2006 hemi that get this calls for 5w20, I have been using Castrol plain GTX 5w30 in it since new, the last oil change I decided to try the Startup and it really does make a difference, it accually seems to run smoother, especially at startup. I wish they wouldnt have dicontinued that oil. Did anyone else try it? Ill probably switch to Pennzoil Platium at 10,000 or stick with Castrol GTX 5w30 or 10w30, Iam just not sold on the 5w20 for the hemi, I have the 2500 and it does not have the MDS. I live in Florida and am going to stick with a heavier oil as was used and proved in the earlier hemi s in 2003 thru 2005 models. Thanks.

Sounds like a good plan to me.
If your manufacture states use 5W-20 use it. I have the 5.7 HEMI used nothing but 5W-20. It has not died. It will not die because I am using 5W-20. Make sure that it you have the proper amount of oil. Change it at an reasonable interval and you will grow tired of your truck before the engine dies.

Whey was it then the same price as Blend I will never know. Basically a Semi-Semi Synthetic. Weird I know but apparently did not sell well even being on John Forces funny car all year. Ah well. Marketing folk you know.

We saw some excellent used oil analysis with this stuff. I was thinking there must be something to this startup stuff before it was discontinued. I think it is an excellent oil.
Thanks for all the replies. As far as the 5w20 comment on the hemi, first Iam not pro anti-5w20. I believe it works great in some engines, my wifes lincoln with the 4.6 intech has had mc 5w20 since new, the 50,000/4 year warranty and great oil samples soothed my mind on the light oil. With a engine of that design I believe Ford had a reason to want a light oil that would flow high. The hemi is a totally different design, more old fashioned and originally called for a 10w30 then a 5w30 and now a 5w20. I dont think that 5w20 is going to blow it up, I think it will shorten its predicted life span. The fact that dodge cut their warranty back to 36,000/3 from 70,000/7 does not help. I dont buy trucks like cars and ussually keep them 10+ years v.s cars for about 4 or 5. Another reason I leaned toward the Castrol startup heavier oil is that I have a company truck and dont drive the hemi except on weekends, so it sits alot. I have a feeling with 5w20 starting up after sitting week after week would be a very hard on the engine with wear. I would not be afraid to bet running any weight of oil, even straight weight a engine would last 36,000 miles.
