I emailed Castrol asking for them to send me the specs on their oils under the SL formulation
and I got them in snail mail today. I'm not all that impressed. I will post the specs for their
10w30 oils (if anyone wants the other viscosities you can ask and I'll type them later, it's just
too much typing all at once)

I find it especially sad how the Syntec Blend doesn't look any better than the regular GTX,
yet at a higher cost.

I just emailed them also, about GTX because I was curious why its consumption was much lower than Mobil1. And I asked about the NOACK and if they had moly and they essentially avoided those questions as you can see.
And so obviously there is more to consumption than flash and NOACK.

Why can't they just answer a simple question like "is there moly in your oil?" It's not as if
anyone is going to just go out and take that info and make their own oil! So why keep it
secret? If someone really needs the info, they can spend $25 and have a virgin sample
analyzed, so as a company, why not just answer the consumers questions and give out this
proper info?

Patman,
Most companies who pay minimal wages for someone to answer phones have an answer sheet to respond with and have no real idea themselve what you may be reffering to. The true engineers are in the background and are not the ones you get to talk with.

I contacted texaco one time and when discussing items listed about oil, they had no idea, and after a bit, I finally got to some one with some idea of what was going on, I THINK? maybe? oh well, seems that is the norm and the person that responded to your question about moly in that oil doesn't know what exactly you're taking about.

I got Castrol NA to send me data sheet on Syntec and their 10W-30 read like this:

Spec. Grav. 60 F 0.85
Vis., cSt
@40 C (ASTM D445) 70
Vis., cSt
@100 C 11.5
HTHS 3.5
VI 159
Flash Point 455 F(235C)
Pour Point -27F (-33C)

Thats the main stuff. Theres more I can post if anyone needs/wants it.
