Is it possible to buy Castrol SLX, I believe the designation is LL04, specific for BMW, in the U.S.A.? Is it packaged with a new name for us? Why does freakin' Castrol make it so difficult to use their oil?

Yes, Castrol Formula SLX is sold here as Syntec 0w30. Just be sure it says made in Germany on the label. It's sold in some Autozones in the US and Walmart and Canadian Tire in Canada.

Why is there such limited availability? You know, with the advent of teriffic sites such as this one, which, I'm sure the oil manufacturers have to be aware of, they would know that knowlegable people are out there. If there is demand for a product, then , **** it, make it available. Castrol gives me an easy choice....go with Mobil One 0w-40...at least I know what I'm getting, and it will be there. Castrol must have High School drop-outs doing their marketing.

My response from Castrol re. this topic. The are not too swift with their answers:

No the SYNTEC 0w-30 is not the same as the SLX 0w-30. The SYNTEC 0w-30
is the same as the German 0w-30 available in the US, however.

Still waiting for your answer...

Hi,

You didn't answer whether or not the German Syntec 0W30 is the same
formula
as the euro SLX Long Life 0W30. Please answer this question. Also,
what is
the GM LL spec?

Thanks.
