Castrol Multi-Vehicle

I was at my local auto parts store. I was checking out the ATF area. I been using Nissan Matic-D in my Sentra. It's getting harder to find it under $6.00 a quart. I noticed Castrol's new multi vehicle ATF. They have two different bottles, one said Domestic for $2.99, and the other Imports for $3.99. It says it meets Nissan Matic D & J specs.

Has anybody used this stuff? Is it the same as the Dexron III they had?

The fact is that any of these non-OEM approved products are a total 'shot in the dark'. Depending on the way that you operate the vehicle they might be ok, they might not. The problem is that if it's the latter you will never prove that the fluid was at fault and that's what they bank on.

Castrol domestic fluid is simply a dexronIII/mercon equivalent. Its nothing special. Note that Dexron has been an acceptable equivalent from Nissan. So, you can use that fluid.

The Castrol import fluid is a synthetic blended HFM'd fluid. It'll provide better all around performance. Its an excellent choice.

In place of d-matic, I do recommend ANY Mercon-V or multivehicle ATF. D-matic and DexronIII are just poor performers in the JATCO environment.

If you do decide to go with OEM Nissan D-matic, Sentras(and most units requiring D-matic) benefit from Nissan transmission treatment additive. Yep, that OEM ATF was so good that it usually needed help from OEM add-on additives. Talk about a 'shot in the dark'.

IMO, don't waste your money on OEM matic-d fluid or any DexronIII/Mercon/domestic ATF.
