Castrol GTX SynBlend & HM

I am getting ready to do some servicing on a co-worker's 08 TSX with 55k. The O'Reilly ad specials for this week are all Castrol products.

I noticed that GTX SynBlend and High Mileage are $3 more than the regular GTX. What am I getting for an extra $3 with GTX SynBlend, over regular GTX?

No need for High Mileage oil in this application.

IMO....your not really getting much more than using the regular GTX for your OCI.

After-all, most of the conventional oils for API-SN, according to the posts to the board and articles in publications, all point to the opinion that most, if not all, API-SN, ILSAC GF-5 conventional oils contain some synthetic to meet the requirement.

The only reason I'm contemplating going for the Castrol GTX SynBlend deal is because I have about 14 quarts of 20w-50 GTX, SynBlend that I had picked off the clearance rack at Advance Auto for a red tag discount of $1.95 a quart in East Orange,NJ.

So with the gift card deal on 5w-20 SynBlend and the deal with the clearance SynBlend 20w-50 oil, I can keep it all the same formulation for some good oil changes, at an inexpensive price, for family, neighbors and friends vehicles. They will receive the gift cards for the oil purchased since their is a limit of only 2 per person or household.

I plan to blend in batches of 6 quarts where 4 quarts will be 5w-20 and 2 quarts will be 20w-50 all in Castrol GTX SynBlend for older vehicles.

My AAP has the same Castrol SynBlend 20W50 on "closeout" for $2.95/qt. I just called a buddy of mine and mentioned it to him as he uses similar oil for his BMW R/1200.

I lucked out getting 20-50 HM GTX SM for $1 a qt($5 jug). Going in the Harley and Honda. Non-energy on the jug helps. Walmart just wanted it gone. I saw & grabbed most!

Works well in my '89 olds do too a head gasket leak.

For much of the past decade I have been running a Castrol synthetic blend in our Honda Accord. At first, I got the Syn Blend. Then I made my own, mixing four quarts GTX with one quart Syntec. It's worked very, very well, though the oil I have now is the old SM formulation. I will be close to the last of my stash with the oil change coming up. I have gradually worked the interval out to and from 7.5K and this one will be 10K. To counter all the gasping I just heard, bear in mind that; a) Honda V6s are very easy on oil by nature, b) this car has an almost perfect operational cycle, and c) it's been closely monitored. I will UOA the 10K run and some of my used oil analysis are posted if you are interested enough to search for them under my name.

FYI, it is (and was) not so much that I'm a big fan of Castrol, but I was familiar with the product and that's what I started the car on from new. I was always able to find Castrol on sale and my stash was all bought at under $2/quart for the GTX and under $3 for the Syntec... most of it when a nearby KMart was shutting down a few years back. Haven't made up my mind on what to buy for the next go-round.

It's always gives me a "heart warming" feeling, to read another fellow Blender/Mixers post, on personal experiences with blending motor oils.

Let the doubters....doubt...lol

I've done the same with Valvoline conventional and NAPA full Synthetic, in various grades, all vehicle have run fine and the engines quiet.

I would go Synblend since it is only $3 more.

Syn Blend is good but Pennzoil Conventional is better
