Which of these oils would be better at quieting valvetrain chatter? CS in 5w30 has about 300ppm of moly whereas I believe the castrol has about 60-80 if I’m not mistaken?

Magnatec is known to be a quiet oil, is EP also known to be as quiet or quieter then magnatec?

Car specifies a 20wt, would a 30wt be better at quieting the valvetrain?

30wt might, Im not sure where you live but 10w30 should be okay during mild temperatures.
Castrol edge 5w40 is a very quiet oil too.

Live in NY so I think 10w30 wouldn’t be suitable.

Why is 10W30 not suitable in NY? It works fine here in Mass.
Isn’t a 10w30 too thick for your winters? Although rare, we do get some days close to zero or below here in nyc. Thinking a 5w would be better suited for those days no?

We're in the middle of summer so 10W30 is fine. I did have Pennzoil Platinum 10W30 in my F150 once during a ski trip in the mountains and it fired up perfectly fine at -20*F.

10w30 castrol edge is mighty fine , but if your gonna go with a 5w go with 5w40 castrol edge, its a quiet oil with moly and titanium

Wouldn’t a 40wt be way too thick? Also I’ve heard thicker oils are worse for upper end noise. Is this true?

Its not way to thick, it might be worse for your engine but I've used straight SAE 40 and 15w40 in my jetta and quiets down lifters by a bit.

The thicker oil wont be a problem in operating temperature, and it does shear so not much to worry about.

If your in doubt 5w30 might work, try that first.
