Castrol Edrolge at walmart

Does anyone know if its worth buying? I mean what really sets it apart from Valvoline Synpower which is what i typically buy and after the next OCI i'm going Pennzoil conventional. If its 20 bucks at my locally Walmart I may pick up a jug but i want some feedback on it.

I know 34 is still steep. But for the person who saw if for 20, id jump on that. I have used several brands and I really am not partial to any one. Im just trying to find which one my vehicle runs best on.

The most I will pay for a synthetic is 20 bucks, and at that price its the Synpower or PP. But given that I want to cut my OCI costs down and since I only do 3k OCI's with my driving habit i'm going YB. But I would seriously jump on the Edge jugs for 20 bucks if thats the case, but again I don't know why its so special, I mean its not GC or anything.

" but again I don't know why its so special, I mean its not GC or anything. "

Ahh but that's the question, the voa on this oil looks as good as the gc. And there has been no uoa on this oil yet.

Second German castrol is not guaranteed for 15,000 miles by castrol. Edge is, so which one sounds better?

Edge sounds better but again no concrete backing. I haven't run Castrol in any of my vehicles due to pricing. It makes me wonder how they are able to maintain such a business model with such outlandish prices. I'd do a used oil analysis on it, but I barely put 10k on my cars/trucks a year. My TC after a year and half of driving had only 12.2k miles! My Impala was 10k a year for 7 or 8 years, and this Xterra will be the same. We need someone who drives a good amount in a short period to do the used oil analysis>

well I put 80 miles a day to work. I could do a couple uoa for you guys. At what milage interval would be best?

If its 20 bucks by you then go for it, if not save your money for the goods you normally use. I think a 5k UOA would be a good starter, don't need to fully drain it, but can just open the filter up and take a sample from it, seal the filter back up. Don't need a large amount of oil for a sample so it shouldn't impact the 10k UOA or the amount of oil in the vehicle.

It just went down to $26/qt at my local Wal-Mart today....they also had Castrol Syntec Blend 10w30 for $1 each (from $4.27) for the single quarts, cleaned them out...the EDGE will have to wait until it's below $20 for me!

I don't understand the thinking that 26 bucks is too much money for a synthetic oil. Pennzoil Platinum runs around 20 or 21. Synpower the same. It averages about 5 bucks a qt. And, none of the other oils such as Pennzoil or synpower guarantee there oil for 15000 miles. So really, lets say you stretch the oil change out to even 10 or 12 thousand miles, you are saving money.

^^^ It's not "too much", but I picked up 10 qts of something else for $10 total, and now that MaxLife Blend is $14/5qts, it's a pretty good deal for a known quantity. I'm more looking for a lower price so I can add to my Strategic Petroleum Reserve something a bit better, and save a few pennies. But I'm pretty cheap. OK, a lot cheap.

As of this past Sunday it's still $34/5 quarts or $7.74/quart bottle at my Walmart in northwest NJ. It doesn't seem to be moving to well

I see that Royal Purple motor oil is now $8.74/quart at WalMart, up from $6.74

! They raised the price of the RP when they put the Castrol Edge on the self. It didn't sell at $6.74, it's sure not going to sell at $8.74.

No doubt. The funny thing is, my closest Walmart raised the 10w30 to the new price but the 5w30 didn't follow it for nearly two weeks.

From the post I have read, Roy Purple hasn't been that great in the used oil analysis. I have no idea why people would spend that much on that oil. I would rather use the Red line or Amsoil if I was going to spend that much

I wonder if they eventually plan on discontinuing the Syntec line. I don't see much point of Castrol keeping 2 different synthetic oil lines.

I will take a drive up there today and see what its going for. I wouldn't take any of my vehicles to 15k OCI's given that my driving habits aren't all highway etc. So the price @26 or 35 isn't worth it. I'm firm at 20, and 11 for conventional.
