Im not sure if all walmarts are doing this. But in Indiana, I went to a superwalmart that had the new castrol Edge 5w30 and 10w30 on display sale of $25.00. Now thats a deal.

oops can't spell this early. I mean Castrol Edge. But the 25 dollers is right. 5qt jug.

It's still $34 in the Charlotte NC area.I've used Castrol for many years but will be switching all my rods to Pennzoil Platinum on the next OC.

Edge will have to be less expensive than PP before I even consider it.

Castrol may have to do some BOGO marketing like SOPUS did with PP to get people to try it.

If you want to try the Castrol Edge, contact them on the website and ask for free coupons.

They send me 2 coupons.Got 2 qts free.

Well, still kind of prevents one from trying it as an OCI with just a couple of quarts doesn't it? I guess you could buy the extras at full boat pricing, but.. They should do something where you buy 5 or 6 and get a full rebate like PP did a ways back. (I know many didn't get theirs and I won't go there, but I did and I use PP/YelBot exclusively in my cars).

just a thought.

Sounds like Walmart has decided to move out the slow moving merchandise. By most accounts, the multi-million dollar (literally tens of millions) marketing roll-out of Castrol Edge has been a disaster.

But who knows, maybe they will drop the price of the 5-quart jug to the same as M1 and then it might start selling?

at the same price as M1, I might use it. Considering I can get GC at AZ for the same price as Edge at WM...makes you think twice.

At my store, it has been deleted. No longer carry/No longer order. They have sold maybe a jug in the last two weeks. Your store is probably clearancing it just to get rid of it.

The walmart by my brother's house has it for 34.00/jug.

This equates to 6.80/qt. In my opinion, if I'm going to use a high price syn oil, I can get Amsoil ASL for 6.75/qt. Seems like a no-brainer.

That Edge can stay on the shelf and collect dust

I too, have seen the Castrol Edge appear on Walmart shelves a month or so back. The introduction was recent, so I doubt they're going to drop the price anytime soon. If I remember correctly it was 34$ / 5qt across the St Louis area.

I immediately thought of BITOG upon seeing it. I'm curious to see if the benefits are worth the cost... I'm not convinced, I'll wait for the guinea pig results. As it was put in an earlier post, this price is going beyond Amsoil's--- Honestly, I'd rather support Amsoil, as I can equate the added cost to their unconventional distribution method.

Even the marketing and bottle design for Castrol Edge was less than impressive.. It appeared to be just another synthetic motor oil; If one believes what's written on the bottle, Mobil 1 Extended Performance would appear to be a no-brainer... (guaranteed ~15k interval, exact number eludes me at the moment).

Yes, M1 guarantees EP for 15,000 miles (for whatever that is worth), unless you drive in harsh conditions (stop and go, excessive idling, towing, dusty, etc). Same guarantee as Edge. Price for Mobil 1 Extended Performance is $28.50 for 5-quart jug at most Walmarts ($26.00 for regular M1). $34.00 for Edge.

In Castrol ads, they say Edge is "unsurpassed" by Mobil 1 Extended Performance in terms of wear protection. Translated, that means that they are about the same (according to Castrol) and they are not willing to say that Edge is better than Mobil 1 Extended Performance (but they do claim it is better than regular M1).

Interestingly, they do specifically claim that Edge has some PAO base oils (among other base oils), which is something that Castrol Syntec does not claim (neither does PP to best of my knowledge).

We have a few Wal-Marts in town. One had a proud standalone display of Edge last week but not a bottle anywhere now. The Wal-Mart in the most affluent neighborhood puts Edge on the shelves between the Valvoline and Quaker State oils. No special prominence, but the prices are still outrageous. A third Wal-Mart never carried Edge at all.

You're seriously comparing PP to the Edge with a mix of PAO and extended OCI?

PP is no match for Edge or Mobil 1 Extended Performance. It's a fine oil for a reasonable OCI but it really isn't exactly in the same league as the above in terms of extended OCIs.

That's why it should always be cheaper than the Edge or Mobil 1 Extended Performance.

No it isn't. It's "dollars".

PS Not trying to be rude, but there is a forum below for "Specials".

Here in Michigan it should be noted that the Canadians on the other side of the river always say "doolers" and two "doolers" is a toonie. FWIW.

Castrol EDGE is $34 for 5 quart jug here too.
I also found today that Valvoline Synpower now claims that they have wear protection equal to EDGE, and 9X better than Mobil 1. They also have a coupon on their website for $5 rebate on 5 quarts. I have now gotten $15 in rebates on Synpower and plan to use it next time I change the oil in my Z06. (Synpower also meets the Corvette 4718M spec)

Castrol EDGE does not provide better wear protection than SynPower. SynPower offers the same level of protection as Castrol EDGE and protects your engine in severe driving conditions. Valvoline chose to claim 4X better wear protection than Mobil 1 in order to ensure statistical accuracy. Valvoline actually provides 9X better wear protection than Mobil 1, based on the average of our Sequence IVA test results for Mobil 1 and SynPower
