Was looking in my dec 2005 issue of F1 Racing magazine and saw a advertisement for Castol Edge. Is this the new GOLD GC? http://www.castrol.com/edge

Actually it seems that edge is different. I think our syntec is their gtx magnatec.

I was checking out a copy of Performance BMW at the book store and they featured short take on Castrol's new oil called "Edge". It is a maximum performance oil with a price to match! I don't think it is an existing oil that has been "repackaged" - it is new. I didn't buy the magazine but if I recall correctly the price listed in British pounds was way high. By the time you get done with the currency differences the price was high enough to keep me using GC for now. It seems like the Brits get all the good stuff - 98 oct gas, the best oil, more horsepower, BY GUM!!! Of course I'm sure they'd trade it all for our gas prices!!! Cheers all! DV

I fear the 98 (and 99) octane gas is only Ron rated. So not so good as you might think

I thought I read somewhere that gations in the US was starting to get the 98 octaine gas now. I am sure I remember that years ago amaco (spell check?) use to have 100 or 103 octaine gas?

yeah most likely Ron wich means it is more like our 93 octane. Any ways what I find more interesting is that the only 0w30 list is the castrol edge but I gusses that doesn't mean much. Though looking at the spec sheet for it makes it more compeling.Such as Appearance Clear & Bright and the viscosity at 100c being 12.2 any ways here is the link to the data spec thing http://tinyurl.com/dbgot

Sunoco sells GT 100 race fuel at some locations. It's an unleaded fuel so it's safe for your catalytic converters too. http://www.racegas.com/gt100locals/default.asp There's a station about 30 mins from my house that sells it.

Castrol Edge 0W30 replaces SLX Longtec 0W30 which is our GC but the Tech sheet for the two oils is identical. The colour is "clear and bright". IMO Castrol Edge 0W30 is our "gold GC". Regarding the price of the oil in the UK, all motor oil is expensive there; up to 4 times the price of what we pay here in North America. M1 is like 8 pounds per litre or 13-14 bucks US. Peter

stc, You are such a cynic! Lyricism and motor oil can certainly go hand in hand, not that my attempt was all that spectacular...but then again I spent about five minutes on it... PS I believe it was pointed out once before that on the new bottles of GC (the rounded ones with the 299.5 rating on the bottle), it says near the top of the back label, "Get the Syntec edge"...might just be the new company buzzword...OR...it might imply a relationship with the bright-eyed motor oil in the UK.
