Your question indirectly posses the question of consumer or customer subjectivity.Well for one thing there is no way you could make a meaningful fuel economy measurement that discriminates between two different oils, and then attribute your observation to that specific variable. There are many, many variables in every day driving and the effect of the oil is in the noise.
And why should Edge be “noticeably better?
As if not all, most consumers, lacking the means or access to scientific data and testing, will base their assessment of product performance on subjective evaluations.
Eg does it look/taste/smell good etc.
True, my, and my father's evaluations are subjective with the only exception being the vehicles fuel consumption calculations.
Does a oil company marketing a premium consumer oil product take into account consumer subjective assessments of performance? Probably.
