I just returned from Walmart and spotted something I don't recall seeing there before... (2) Castrol ATF formulations.

Certainly not new products, but I think they are new to my, and possibly your, local store. These were the Import/Honda and older vehicle Dex/Merc products.

With the Dex/Merc formulation being priced perilously close to the Valvoline MaxLife D/M (11 cents per quart cheaper in fact), I found myself scratching my chin thinking about whether I should consider trying it.

Hmmmmm.... no, methinks I luv the MaxLife way too much (for the moment at least)!

Also consider the MaxLife ATF is supposed to be synthetic. It certainly says so on the bottle. I'd bet the Castrol is conventional ATF.

My Wally's has been out of most of its auto supplies for weeks. Not a bottle of brake cleaner, brake fluid, power steering fluid, or ATF in SuperTech or MaxLife varieties left to be found. Yet there's a pallet of Castrol GTX sitting there with dusty bottles of GTX on the shelves.

I'm not a fan of Castrol in general, but I've used their Mercon V product since the local Ford dealer charges ludicrous prices for MC. It works fine.

+1 My Ford ATs have always run noticeably better on Castrol (green bottle especially) versus MaxLife. This was for both the E4OD and whatever POS is in the Taurus.
