does anything know anything about this oil... its not OTC, i work at a mercedes/bmw dealership, it comes in big green drums... is it a group IV maybe a german formulation or something? If its like OTC syntec group III, ill pass... how good is the OTC 5w-40 anyways?

Johnny has posted that it's made for Castrol North America by PetroCanada. If that's the case, it's a Group III. However, PC makes some of the best Group III base oil around, and I'm sure the 5w40 is a lot better than the current OTC Syntec crap.

Hopefully, Castrol has come to its senses and the posts we've seen on here about 0w40 and 0w30 are early indications that they are going to start selling their European synthetic formulations here.

Well, those are PAO CAS#s for sure. I'd say this rules out PetroCanada.

Where did you get the MSDS? I've never been able to find a source for Castrol's US oils on the web.

wow... so, its a group 4 PAO? i didnt catch if it had moly in it?

this stuff gets pumped by a huge oil truck into huge tanks and comes out thru a wall dispenser inside... there were also some 55 gallon drums layin around... i wish i knew if the stuff on the wall was PAO... any suggestions?

If the MSDS that was posted is for this oil, then it is a PAO/ester based oil. As for moly, I can't tell from the MSDS.

wink.gif
"

Made in Belgium? That pretty much rules out PetroCanada I guess.
