I went to see Casino Royale tonight, and I liked it. I liked it very much. This is not your grandfather's James Bond, that's for sure.
Craig does a credible job of making the character his own right off the bat, something no other actor has been able to do, IMO, since George Lazenby. With this Bond there has been a paradigm shift.
The secret to the new Bond's success will be letting the character evolve along the lines set down in this picture. If Craig ever starts trying to play Bond to the 007 paradigm that has been essentially set in stone for the last 30 years, it will be a disaster. He needs to keep doing what he's doing. Let's hope the writers of the future Bond scripts are wise enough to see this.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service still remains my favorite Bond film, but I think Casino Royale is now a close second, largely because the two films are so similar.
Here's a little trivia: The Aston Martin used in OHMSS was a DBS, and the special edition Aston Martin used in Casino Royale is dubbed the DBS.
