Carfax gone from cars.com?

Appreciate the information. But the free vehicle history report is limited and not that accurate.
You're welcome, It's Free so I'll take what I can get but certainly would be a good idea to get all available carcheck reports on a vehicle that I'd want to buy. Although most of the time it's not a deal breaker or something I even run before purchasing since I'm usually pretty confident in what I'm buying. Buying a used vehicle is kind of not fun but these can add some value for some.

Just go to carfax.com to search for vehicles, you get a free carfax on most of the cars. Carfax info can't be beat IMHO, they have a monopoly on the market with their various data sources. Autocheck is catching up though.

Sites like VIN check and other competitors don't have the datamining that Carfax has secured and never will.

Not all shops report to Carfax. Not everything is a dark cover up.
What about insurance claims? My wife’s BMW showed front end damage on a Carfax that happened before she purchased but only after we traded it in. The Carfax she got when she purchased it had a “clean” report…Maybe it was the selling dealer??

we have a 23 cx5 turbo that we hit a bear with and had about $5500 worth of damage..no sheet metal but the plastic bumper and grill and the intercooler. no structural damage. top rated body shop did the repairs. I would like to know what it shows on the car fax but not willing to pay for it. I tried one o those free ones and they show something but want you to pay for the details...

do you get spammed after signing up for the carsforsale one? looks like you need to sign up to make an account
I used Google for signup. If I did get any marketing I've since "Unsubscribed" as I don't get any & don't remember getting much if anything.

The real problem is you dont have enough time, tools, availability or the consent for you to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle could have underly problems like a bad head gasket and they had masked it with additives. Buying a used car is very challenging. Fixing the car I would say not hard, it depends on the situation but can be complicated if encountered.

Then it's not that important to you.

All I know is that if there isn't any structural damage-those cars (with most manufacturers) can qualify as being "certified" if the dealer puts them through the process.
For what ever that is worth.

Right, Unless you are buying the neighbors car it's the wild west out there. 🤣
I've bought many used cars & most have been okay or better buys so the odds of success are high.

Carfax has been manipulated to not include all that’s truly important in the history. Traded two cars that had insurance paid body claims. The dealers sold both (separate transactions) with “clean Carfax reports”.
I've also seen where some places don't upload repair information to carfax. I had a guy bring his BMW 335i in as a possible trade when I worked at a VW dealership. It was tight as a drum, drove fantastic etc. He did let on that he hit a deer on the highway and it bounced then smacked the drivers door. No airbags deployed. The body shop performed an amazing job. Nothing showed up on carfax.
