just got a new carb for my briggs quantum 6 hp flathead.i was wondering if the o ring between the carb and engine should be lubricated with oil,grease ,etc. for a better seal and to prrevent the o ring from drying out. thanks for any input.

Silicone grease would be best.
I usually use plain ole' Vaseline. Never had a problem; it's what grandpa uses on his stuff
Is it the O-ring that slides over the intake manifold tube? I either use engine oil, or some Sta-Lube 3310. The reason I don't use silicone grease in that application is because what I've found is that high heat will turn that silicone grease into silicone caulking.
Not needed. Put it on and go.
