Was in CQ the other day looking for Hyd oil and seen that they carry a house brand i guess called "Bravo", MSDS shows Warren Unilube.

can't find allot on this oil like viscosity specs, anyone hear of it/info?

I have used Bravo before on some heavy leaking applications until they could be fixed. The fluid is not approved to be run in hydraulic pumps in your typical machines like Cat, JD and Komatsu. Will not help protect the yellow metals. For a basic low cost fluid in a basic application it will work fine I have found.

thanks,,no yellow metals(that i know of) just a loader tractor hydraulics.

"basic application it will work fine I have found"

like what application?

Hydraulic pumps than run cherry picker log loaders and a hydraulic pump for a rosser head debarker on a sawmill. I did run ten gallons in a high end Cat log loader that was leaking oil bad until the end of the shift, then we changed the leaking hose. I did not think a limited volume would hurt the pump. For tractor hydraulics it should work just fine.

I've never seen any that doesn't throw in the number 32, 46, of 68 in the description. Those are the 3 more common ISO viscosity grades. Most claim AW for antiwear additives. That is important.

For my money, in a system operating below 1500 psi, most of the inexpensive stuff is ok. If higher, I'd recommend a fluid that is tested to one of more of the common manufacturer standards; Vickers (Eaton) has 2, and Denison at least 1.

Warren has been in business a long time and has a decent reputation. Their website lists a less expensive CUI family and a premium Coastal family. Both are available in the 3 viscosity grades above; Coastal extends that to 100 and 150, rarely used in industrial or mobile hydraulic systems.

Right,,anyway i went with a better oil i found some Shell Tellus 100, my unit works on 2500psi and below so im going with that should be good oil.

thanks....

Tellus is a suitable oil. ISO 100 is AWFULLY thick. You should not normally run at *any* time with an oil this thick unless the oil is at least 60F, and not at over about 100 psi until at least 120F. Normal operating range for this grade fluid is from 140F to 190F ... and life will be, by industrial multi-year criteria, short.

No oil cooler so when digging hydraulics gets hot!,,a 30w is perfect for this unit. anything else turns into water and hydraulics suffer performance. i've recorded 140 to 180 deg temps already and that was after only an hour of digging.

unit only operates during summer months,,no cool/cold weather operation.
