I was talking to my friend who works at canadian tires's parts counter, and we were talking about oils, and i dont know how it started but he thought the difference between a xw30 and a xw40 oil is that the 30 Boils at 300 degress adn the 40 at 40 degrees, then he thought that 0w30 is too thin and can dmg engine HHEHREHE

He is right about that one; well, for 2 stroke Detroit Diesels anyway.

There should be a requirement that if you work behind a parts counter, you should have some kind of knowledge about vehicles. One time, my brother was looking for a starter for his old Camaro and he went to Canadian Tire. The guy punched up the info on the computer. The engine listing was something like '305 4BBL' the guy turns to my brother and says 'BBL, does that mean big block?'

A couple of weeks ago I heard one of the mechanics from Canadian Tire who was talking with some of his friends/family members who were in the waiting room. He actually told them the difference between 5w30 and 10w30 oil was that 5w30 is rated for 5000km and 10w30 is rated for 10,000km!

here's one....

they have the M1 ATF on sale this week, wanted to but 6 litres. I have seen it at the bulk Esso dealer - they're in cases of 6.

anyhow, the parts guy tells me that's impossible esso/mobil are two different companies, they wouldn't carry each other's products. Whatever!

Oooh, here's another one! I was in CT one time, and I heard one of the parts counter guys actually tell an older woman that if she left her old tires outside, she had just gotten new winter tires, that her steel belts would rust! I had to hold my breath to keep from laughing.

I was told by the auto manager at Walmart that SuperTech oil filters were made by Fram.... SuperTech oil was Havoline......SuperTech Synthetic oil was Mobil 1. The sad part was that this guy really believed what he told me.

I really hope you actually meant "stock boy" instead of "mechanic"!

i wouldnt be surprised, i hate CT's mechanics they KNOW NOTHING and their parts people are no better, my friend and i were having an arguementt in the middle of the store about who was right.

mind u this guy know his stuff when is comes to mechanics( very smart). i guess he just doesnt know about oil, like alot of mechanics.

Sadly, he actually was a mechanic! He wasn't a young newbie either, he looked to be about 40 years old.

Wouldn't take a wheelbarrow to Canadian Tire. All I buy in that store is furnace filters!!

A friend of my son's worked there briefly as an apprentice. He said that the main problem was that there was only one licensed mechanic per 5 or six apprentices/helpers and the mech just couldn't supervise all the jobs.

My local Canadian Tire has signs posted, "No work to be done on property." I always laugh when I see them...it is sooo true.

The only reason I shop there is because they have the best hours. The last time I was there I found out that they dropped their selection of gear clamps down to "3 sizes fits all". What a PITA, I refused to buy a bunch of oversided clamps and crank them down to half their size.

Patman, does this mean that when I change over to 0W30 GC that I will have to drain it out immediately

I suppose it would take about twice as long for the 10w30 to sheer down.
