A VOA was just done of the Canadian, dealership-only Castrol '4718M' oil. It is here:

Take a look at US-availiable Castrol 'Edge' 5W-30:

Almost the exact same, down to TBN.

It IS also fairly similar to regular Syntec 5W-30:

Even with this, the reason I think it is actually re-labelled Edge is that 4718M is a high-temp requirement; so IF Edge has more PAO in its base oil, it will be able to meet this requirement easier than a thin group III oil.

What do YOU all think?

I think you make a valid point and it's very likely it is the same oil.

But Edge 5W30 isn't a GM4718M registered product...is it?

So if it really is the same as the Canada only Castrol SLX (which is 4718M) why wouldn't Castrol have submitted Edge for 4718M approval?

As of September 08 Castrol in the US has no oil on the 4718M list i.e no oil that could be used in a Corvette.

Good point - I have no idea.

Castrol is probably hoping there is more profit in dealer oil changes to offset the cost of the certification; vs. certification for a consumer product that has lower profit margins.

I am getting a bit silly but if it was the exact same oil than cost of certification need only be done once than put it in two different bottles?

That's why I think they are different...probably different base stocks.
