I had my explorer in the dealership on an unrelated matter when
the subject turned to oil.

The service advisor informed me that if I used synthetic oil, I
was married to it for life. He didn't explain why, but he was going check it out for me.

I've never heard of this one before, but I've heard about all of them I thought. Can anyone explain if they've heard this one
before and why. So far I'm scratching my head?

Here we go again... This is a Myth. It is 100% safe to switch back guaranteed. To quote another BITOG member: "How do Semi-Synthetics work then?" <-- These are a mix of Syn & Dino!

yes this is a common myth.
I switch between oils like no other and it all works fine...
so far at least.

Then why do they have synthetic blends ????

of course you can switch between the two :D

It's scary that these guys can work at dealerships, then these same guys can deny warranty for not using an API certified oil or some other excuse, meanwhile they are dumber than a bag of hammers.

I started a post like this 6 months ago because I had the same old "wives tale" in my head.

TOTALLY FALSE...

You can switch to and from until you are blue in the face. It makes no difference at all.

I've switched before too w/o any untoward affects. I've never noticed any harm being done. It sounds like someone is throwing
the [censored] maching at me.

One of the oldest stories in the business, and one which I have gone to great pains to re-educate some of my car-buddies about. It simply isn't an issue with modern oils or vehicles.
