I've been using Liqui Moly Long Life for past 50k miles in my 2005 Mercedes E320 CDI and I recently came across Shell Rotella T6 in the diesel section of Wal-Mart. It has the MB 228.31 certification spec on it. I'm not sure if I can use it in my car. I don't want to start an oil war, but the price is way cheaper and it's way more readily available.

1. What MB spec oil did Mercedes specify for my Benz back in 2005? Currently Mercedes diesels use 229.51
2. Would a MB 228.31 spec oil work in my Benz?

What does your manual say? (the one located in the glove compartment).
If it says so, then go for it. It's one of the best oils on the market.

I am wondering the same for my Yaris....

Instead of ACEA C3....if I can use ACEA E6/E9...

But saps levels for EURO4-5-6 are not the same for PCMO vs HDEO

Pay attention here....since HDEOs in "low saps" oils can vary from 0.9x to 1.1

PCMO is 0.8MAX for C3 or 0.5max for C4

I will try Shell Rimula R6ML in it since it has saps level around 0.9x (just slightly higher then C3 level)
