The worst that could happen is the belt fly's off the pulley and wraps around the spindles and jams the whole deck up or gets caught in the main drive belt and pulls that off its pulley. Flip the spring and put grease on the hook to slow the wear and order a new spring. Welding or heating the coil to form a new hook will lead to way more work in the near future, and right when your trying to finish before that thunderstorm rolls in.
