Dish. Mine is DirecTV. Same as most other folks, $39.99 includes local channels and good stuff like TLC, Discovery (gotta have my American Chopper!!) History Channel, SpeedVision etc. $10 more for 2 additional recievers, $5 for the Tivo fee, and $12 for all the HBO channels. Not bad for $62.49. Picture quality is awesome, programming guide is unrivaled, and customer service is top-notch. Gotta love it. Most of my neighbors have a dish now. We all like to sit around and throw rocks at the ComCast truck when it dares to enter the 'hood

You can get a direct TV Dish and 3 recievers for $53 per month with tax. Free installation and local channels included. What nut case would give the cable company $10 per extra reciever.quote:

I use Wide Open West. 70 channels plus 2mb cable internet is 59.99 a month.
I had a slight problem about a month ago where the picture would break up and my normal 92% signal had dropped to 30%. For you guys with cable you can go in and test your Dish system at a push of a button on the remote. Went into the setup and changed the transponder by one. I can't remember whether it was on 27 and I went to 28 or the otherway. But since then I have never seen my signal strength drop below 90%. BTW anything above 75% it is really hard to see any difference. Oh BTW the reason I dumped the cable was A. Price increase and they made the SciFi channel digital only.
If they think they are going to force me onto digital they are crazy. I have an Ex-Comcast employee working for me that told me they want everyone on digital. I bet they do, it jacks up the cable bill at least another $10 per month over expanded basic. So it you had switched to Digital Jan your bill in Feb would have jumped $13 with this years price increase. There is no way I was paying $46 for 60 channels on Expanded basic and paying $56 for another 10 garbage channels on Digital basic package. If you live in the city of Pittsburgh proper add $3 to the above amounts for the city Cable tax. Heard the reason Comcast moved all the Premium Channels, and Pay Per view up to digital was because of the massive increase in cable Black boxs. I'll bet most of those people walked on the cable company and went to a Dish.

Oh yea, they know what they're doing by not offering cable modem internet service unless you subscribe to their TV service. Some other cable companies here in NJ at least will let you get their cable modem without TV and charge an extra 5 bucks/month on the internet thing for being a non-subscriber. I would do that in a heartbeat if given the chance. Then hello DirecTV.

You don't have to unless you want to use the interactive features or order payper view off the remote. I don't have mine plugged in. If the box is plugged in your box will talk to the Company computers when your off the phone. They just put a splitter at the wall plug. If you would pick up the phone or there is a incoming call it automaticly disconnects. The up side is if you have Caller ID it displays the number on the TV when the phone rings.
Several possibilities.
1. The Dish antenna is not well aimed at the satellite to maximize the signal strength.
2. There are some obstructions in the line of sight to the satellite.
3. Equipment issues (bad LNB, bad wiring, bad receiver).
I have lots of friends with Dish and DirecTV, and read the satellite forums on the Web. Assuming you have the line of sight to the satellite, you will get good reception. Even a single tree in the way can make a huge difference.
Typically with digital TV you don't get a fuzzy picture, you go from picture to nothing. Sounds to me like the dude is getting water in his cables.

Their excuse for the price increases that far exceed the CPI is that they are adding channels. I don't want more channels, just basic. Give em a choice of channels for a lower price.
In addition to the internet cable I can't complain though, for the last two years I have been getting 2 movie channels free. Seems they cut my cable line (phone and elect too) when installing the fiber optics and had to back hoe the yard to fix and gave me a temporary line above ground with the movies. After several calls and attmpts to get it buried and back to normal I gave up, buried it myself and I still have the two movie channels. But, $75/mo with the internet is not really worth it but because of the internet the dish does not seem an option.
