Can anyone recommend a good festoon bulb?

I took a moment to look at my license plate the other day, and realized that it really isn't very well illuminated at night (like most cars IMO). It uses two festoon style bulbs, 37mm IIRC. I want bulbs that are brighter, but whenever I google 'festoon bulb' all I get are cheap eBay LED bulbs, which I do not want. I'm just curious if they make brighter incandescent versions of standard festoon bulbs.

What is the bulb type (number)? It's doubtful you'll find a brighter version of that same bulb, but you may be able to substitute a brighter bulb type. If I recall correctly, the 194 and 168 bulbs, for instance, are the exact same size. But the 194 has a longer life with a dimmer light...and the 168 is brighter with a shorter life.

They do. I wanted a brighter bulb for the ticket light in my Crown Vic, so I went to www.donsbulbs.com and did some research to find a higher-wattage bulb that was about the same size. I used NAPA's online part search to find their part number for it and bought it at NAPA.

I believe festoon means a point on each end, like a Toyota dome light. There are many numbers in that range, however they all vary in length and diameter (as well as wattage).A 194 type bulb is a glass wedge base.

I actually found a 120 lumen 6411 festoon online, which is 1.7" in length (6418 is a 1.5", which is what I need). But 120 lumens is quite bright. Too bad it doesn't fit.

for what application (car)? sounds like C5W? (iirc, sylvania 6418)? If that is the case, I use LEDs from www.autolumination.com Or... if the LED route is not for you.... maybe try: http://store.candlepower.com/64xefifedola.html
